Episode 42: How to Practice Deep Gratitude

Practicing gratitude, it is easier said than done.

I have always been told throughout my life to have gratitude for what I have, to focus on what I am grateful and to write down or say aloud to myself the things I am grateful for daily.

It is a great practice as we have so much to be thankful for in our lives and we often get so caught up in work, life and the overall busy-ness to realize this.

But as I was practicing gratitude, I didn’t really feel too much difference. I mean, I felt better – but it wasn’t what I was expecting.

So how do you practice deep gratitude so that you feel it deeply and it makes an impact on your life and mindset?

I am so thankful to have Angela Simson of The Gratitude Project join me on the show. She shared her experience and advice on how to practice deep gratitude.

First of all, create a ritual to put you in the mental and emotional state that will help you dive deep into your practice. Perhaps, that includes soft lighting, diffusing essential oils, and a cup of hot tea!

Grab a pen and journal and think back through your day and focus on the first thing that made you feel grateful.

Maybe it was receiving encouragement from a dear friend at the exact moment you needed it and you feel deep gratitude that you have this friend in your life and how they helped you get through a difficult moment.

Relive that moment and FEEL how grateful you are. It should bring you to tears, you should feel it in your chest.

Repeat for every moment that happened that day that you are grateful for.

Start slow and begin your gratitude practice once day. And don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss a day.
