Episode 43: Healing with Nutrition

Nutrition is often something we take for granted. We eat fast food often, purchase packaged foods and consume so much processed food. And we don’t always put much thought into how this can impact our health.

Our bodies have an amazing ability to heal themselves, but they need the proper fuel to do so! I’ve seen this first hand and so has Karlene.

I have seen my brother experience his own critical health journey where he experienced dramatic improvement by changing his lifestyle choices. He began seeing a Naturopathic doctor and eating a better diet full of nutrient dense foods. He also took many vitamins and supplements to give his body what he was missing or lacking from his diet.

Now, he is 100% stable and in a healthier state physically, emotionally and mentally. Honestly, it is a remarkable journey and really opened my eyes to the power of proper nutrition.

So exactly what should we be doing to eat a more balanced nutritious diet?

We should eat a lot more whole plant foods of course. I personally am not vegan but I also don’t eat a lot of meat. If I do, it is from local grass fed farms. We need to be very careful where we are purchasing our meats and fish – it is important to do your research, as the quality of the meat is very important. One thing to keep in mind, is whatever they are eating or experiencing you will also then be digesting.

I am also not a fan of diets, I prefer mindfulness. Be aware of how you feel after eating and determine which foods help you feel good and which make you feel foggy, tired, bloated, etc. Those are the foods you should stay clear of. And keep in mind that every is different – just because society is saying one vegetable should be eaten regularly because it is a super food, it may not sit well with you!

You should also be taking vitamins or supplements to compliment your diet. If you are unsure what you are lacking, I definitely recommend getting tested as you don’t want to be taking something that you actually don’t need! Karlene shares exactly which vitamins for us up in BC should be taking as a base always – for example, vitamin D3!

Today I am joined by Karlene Karst, Nutritionist, author, speaker and founder of omega nutrition brand Sea-Licious and we are chatting all about nutrition. We often take for granted what we put into and on our bodies and we also don’t realize how much can actually be healed through proper nutrition, vitamins, and supplements.
