Episode 24: Mastering Your Thoughts Part I

Have you ever given much thought to your thoughts?

We so often hear advice on how we can change our behaviors; exercise more, stop eating junk food, etc. But how often are we capable of long lasting change? For example, many people sign up for gym memberships in January, but by the end of February, they stop going.

So what truly is the key to experiencing real change in your life? This is something I have pondered forever, because I too have fallen victim to only focusing my efforts on changing my behaviors.

I have known Karim Hemmings, my guest for today’s episode, for over a year now and one day we randomly got into the topic of introspection. He shared a little of his journey but got into more about all he has learned and how it has led him to discovering that our beliefs and thoughts are the foundation of everything.

It was a light bulb moment as I mentally digested all that he said.

“Whatever a man or woman thinks about all day long, they become.”

Karim’s story is one that many would not recover from easily. This is why I am overjoyed to share his journey and knowledge with you all because it is truly inspirational. He had a challenging upbringing with a father who was an addict, a mother who was loving but who was also dealing with her own internal struggles. He experienced fatherhood and becoming a husband with big responsibilities at such a young age, struggled to accept his marriage failing, and then suffered the tragic loss of his close sister leading to a deep depression.

I sat in amazement learning all that was beneath the surface and what he had experienced. But I am a firm believer that all our experiences, whether good or bad, help us grow. And boy has Karim used his experiences in the best way possible – to look within and courageously and relentlessly look for the key to making lasting change in his life.

If you think about it, everything you see in the physical world first had to appear in the mind of someone. Karim gave such a great example of this:

“A painting that you see is not the original painting because the original painting was printed on the mind of the painter and then was duplicated into reality.”

So everything you do in life is as a result of a thought. And your behaviors will be consistent with your beliefs and thoughts. It is so important to be aware of the thoughts you are having so that you can determine if they are in line with who you want to be, what you want to be doing, etc.

For example, if you have been told all your life that you are not enough, eventually you will be adopt it as a belief and your behaviors and actions will be in line with that belief. The mind works through conditioning. Anything you repeat to it over and over again, eventually you believe it.

So how do we master our thoughts? Well you are going to have to tune to hear all that Karim has learned. It is one truth bomb or quote worthy statement after another. Grab yourself a cup of organic tea and get ready to be inspired.
