5 Things To Do After Getting Engaged!

Lani Elias Fine Art Photography

He popped the question; you said YES!

First of all, allow me to say congratulations on your engagement! I am sure that your mind is racing with ideas and you are wondering where to start first. I am here to help.

Here are 5 things you should do after getting engaged:

TAKE A BREATH AND CELEBRATE!
Before you call all your family and friends, enjoy this moment with your fiancé. Go out on the town and have a romantic date to celebrate this amazing step you have both taken.

Next, share the news! Parents should be told first; in person is always best! Then call family and friends! Once you have shared this amazing news with those closest to you, you can then post your engagement selfie on social media.

BUDGET
This is very important and should be discussed with your finacé as it will affect every decision you make going forwards. Before you make any plans, you need to decide on a budget that you are both comfortable with. This is also where you can determining if family will be contributing to your wedding budget.

GUEST LIST
If you have a venue in mind, this may determine the maximum number of guests you can invite. Start with your closest family and friends and add from there. If parents are contributing to the budget, they may also want to invite a few guests so hear them out. If you are struggling – a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself “would I invite this person over to my house for dinner”?

DISCUSS A DATE
If you do not already have a date in mind first determine what season you would like to get married in. Then narrow down the month and day. Keep in mind that most vendors need 6-12 months notice for availability so this date may change slightly. Out of town guests will need advance notice in order to make the appropriate arrangements to attend.

HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER
Many overlook this, but I am a huge advocate for hiring a Wedding Planner. This is their world which means they will have all the guidance and resources you need. Planning a wedding is stressful and sometimes can feel likes a full-time job. Having a professional on your side will not only give you peace of mind and help you make the right choices, but it will also allow you to enjoy the planning process without (most of) the stress.
